ABOUT
Singer/Songwriter Mariela Maldonado, stage name Aleiira, was born with a metronome for a heartbeat. Raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mariela began writing and playing songs at the age of 9. Though initially trained in jazz, her bold, colorful vocals have served her in a wide range of genres such as indie pop, synth wave, and pop-rock. Though initially trained in jazz, her bold, colorful vocals have served her in a wide range of genres such as indie pop, synth wave, and pop-rock. Seeking inspiration in great performers like Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and, most recently, Alessia Cara, Aleiira’s goal is to weave honest, raw feelings into the fabric of her music and artistic presence. The lyrics of a song, however, are just as important to this singer-songwriter, whose greatest influences in writing are among Camila Cabello, Aitana, Jesse y Joy, and Olivia O'Brien. During her years of higher education at Full Sail University, she had the chance to collaborate and release music with various other musicians, as well. Aleiira is currently working on her upcoming Spanish EP and just graduated with a Master's Degree in Entertainment Business. Whether it be through the weekly shows she used to perform at Puerto Rico’s Poet’s Passage, through self-produced songs such as “Letter to You”, “Dejarte Ir”,and "Fall", or collaborations like Flashback Scene's latest single “100 Degrees” and Luminal's hit "Over You", Aleiira’s range and passion is easy to notice, and nearly impossible to forget. In her own words:
“I create music because it is my way of communicating the way I feel, like a language that goes beyond words. The excitement and happiness I feel when creating a song is unexplainable. There is nothing else in the world I would rather be doing than music, and the fact that I’m able to do just that every day, is the highlight of my life.”
